001: Reasons for requiring a teaching license in Thailand

The requirement for a teaching license in Thailand is important for the following key reasons:

1. To protect learners
•Ensures that teachers have the appropriate knowledge, abilities, and skills to effectively impart knowledge
•Prevents unqualified individuals from teaching, which could potentially harm children and youth

2.To maintain professional standards
•Requires every teacher to be assessed against the same standard criteria
•Builds public confidence that teachers are equipped with proper knowledge, ethics, and professional conduct

3. To enhance educational quality
•Encourages teachers to continuously develop themselves (licenses must be renewed every 5 years)
•Promotes lifelong learning and regular professional development

4. To regulate and supervise the profession
•Serves as a legal tool to investigate, penalize, or revoke licenses if teachers violate professional ethics
•Protects society from teachers who behave improperly or lack professional standards

5. To create dignity for the teaching profession
•Elevates the teaching profession to be on par with other high-ranking professions such as medicine, engineering, and law
•Builds recognition and pride in the profession

This licensing system is governed by the Teachers and Educational Personnel Council Act B.E. 2546 (2003), with the Teachers Council of Thailand (Kurusapha) serving as the regulatory body.
